I met Richard X Bennett in 2016. He is a wonderfully talented pianist and composer. He immediately opened my ears to the beautiful sounds of Indian classical music through his joyous and energetic compositions, which blend raga-based melodies within a traditional jazz ensemble. In an Oct 2017 DownBeat article, Richard remarks on our first meeting like this. He had asked a mutual colleague, “Who is the craziest sax player you know? ” He said, Matt Parker. Matt came over, and in 30 seconds I knew we had a band.”
Since then, we have recorded and played many shows under Richard X Bennett’s name and have started a uniquely joyful duo project where we cover the history of classical and jazz music as well as feature our original compositions.
